Quest Recognized for Green Efforts

Quest Recognized for Green Efforts

As a company, Quest Diagnostics is regularly recognized for business performance, appearing on the Fortune 500, the Barron’s 500 and similar prestigious lists. These accolades reflect the Five-Point Strategy set in 2012 to guide our business: restore growth, drive operational excellence, simplify the organization, refocus on diagnostic information, and deliver disciplined capital deployment. But we are equally, if not more proud that our sustainability efforts also receive notice. In spring 2016, Quest achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for the state of the art clinical laboratory we recently opened in Marlborough, Mass. Environmentally friendly features of the 209,000 square foot building include Energy Star appliances and computers, a non-smoking campus, showers for walkers or bike riders, low flow toilets and sinks, reclaimed materials, recycling and occupancy sensors to turn off lights. In addition, most building materials within the laboratory were manufactured within a 500 mile radius, and construction materials included Forest Stewardship Council certified wood from qualified sources not harmful to ecosystems. (The full LEED scorecard can be found here.)Projects like the Marlborough lab and our company-wide commitment to sustainability have led to Quest appearing on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and Newsweek’s Green Rankings list.In September 2015, Quest marked 11 consecutive years on the North America Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) and for 12 years on the World DJSI for our strong economic, environment, social commitment. The latest ranking finds Quest in the 97th percentile in the economic category, 85th in the environment field, and 94th percentile for our social commitment. To be included or remain in the index, companies must continually intensify their sustainability initiatives."When it comes to health - for our business, our people, our communities and our planet - we know our actions can have tremendous impact," our President and Chief Executive Officer, Steve Rusckowski , said in a statement at the time of the DJSI honor. "We are proud of our continuing inclusion on both the World and North America DJSI, which is a direct outgrowth of holding ourselves accountable to do the right thing and to make a positive difference in the world.”On the 2016 Newsweek Green Rankings, another barometer recognizing our ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, Quest ranks at #162, up 14 places. Eight indicators Green Rankings assess and measure the environmental performance of the world’s largest publicly traded companies that make up the Green Rankings list:: Combined Energy Productivity, Combined Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Productivity, Combined Water Productivity, Combined Waste Productivity, a Green Revenue Score, Sustainability Pay Link, Sustainability Board Committee, and Audited Environmental Metrics.
