My Quest Story - Francesca Henning

It’s amazing when a job comes into your life when you truly need a good one!

For most of my professional life, I’ve worked in retail/customer service and specifically retail management and operations. I loved being involved with customers and ensuring they were satisfied with our services, their purchases, and the organization as a whole.

For over 10 years, I worked in store management for a company called Toys R Us and Babies R Us. It was my life, my identity and something that I looked forward to everyday! What made it the greatest place in the world, were the children, the families, and the smiles out the door. A kid with their first bike, to new parents expecting a baby and creating their wish lists, to the holidays and Christmas.

But in 2013, my husband of 18 years fell ill, and I needed to resign my position to assume the very important role as his caregiver. It was challenging navigating this new role and the intense care he required. I couldn’t do it alone. With help from many agencies including the Veteran’s Administration and community, I managed to ensure he had the best care possible.

I struggled with many part-time jobs as I was torn between my availability and my husband’s care. There were not many companies that offer a “work/life” balance and were willing to accommodate my availability, or give me the chance to contribute my skills and experiences.

I finally found that flexibility when I joined Quest Diagnostics in 2016 and started working part-time as a Route Service Representative (RSR). It was a job that truly tapped into my skills and experiences while affording me the availability I needed to earn a paycheck, contribute to a great company, and support my husband. They worked with me, and I’ve given my all to them!

In October 2019, I lost my husband of nearly 22 years. At the time, I was working part-time and with the loss of my husband, I found myself in a pickle. I needed a full-time opportunity to help me stay in the home we shared, pay the bills, and be a contributing member of a company.

Quest opened opportunities to my new availability. I began working full-time in November 2019 and it has been the best experience ever.

I love what I do! I know Quest Diagnostics plays such a critical role in healthcare, and I am proud to be a part of that.

This company has been the saving grace in so many ways, I couldn’t begin to explain them all. But in a few words, it’s been truly amazing!
