Biometric screenings

Biometric screenings take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. The screening will include either a venipuncture or fingerstick blood draw, as well as the measurement of biometric values. What is involved in a biometric screening is also impacted by the screening modality.

Participants who complete an on-site screening at a work site or other location will need to check in prior to the blood draw (venipuncture or fingerstick). The blood draw and biometric measurements will be taken by a trained, on-site provider.

Participants who complete a screening at a Quest Patient Service Center (PSC) will have a venipuncture blood draw. Biometric measurements will be taken by a trained Quest Diagnostics staff member.

Participants who complete self-collections for screenings will complete a self-administered fingerstick and self-report biometric measurements.

Whether or not employees need to fast (not eat or drink anything except water for 9-12 hours prior to the screening) is dependent on the screening panel offered by the employer. Before all biometric screenings, individuals should:

• Drink plenty of water
• Take all medications as prescribed by their physician
• Wear comfortable clothing where the veins in the arm can be easily accessed for venipuncture blood draws
• Refrain from applying lotion to hands prior to fingerstick blood draws

Individuals who attend on-site fingerstick screening events will receive their biometric results at the event, as well as online on the Quest Diagnostics participant site within 3-5 days. Individuals who attend an on-site venipuncture screening event or complete a screening at a PSC receive results online within 1-3 days and receive a results report in the mail within 10-14 days. All information obtained from biometric screenings is Protected Health Information (PHI) and is secured in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
